Considering The Range Of New And Used Fire Trucks

By:

It's a childhood fantasy: the wail of a fire-truck sire tears through the air as they cling to its side, fully suited up and ready to tackle whatever fire or problem they might be carried too. New and used fire trucks, with their deep red paint and shiny instruments, have always carried a special allure, for young as well as for old. Ironically, something so visually captivating is designed to be first and foremost instrumental: it's success is determined entirely on whether it can put out the next fire.

Of course, the classic fire truck look--with the large cap up front and the ladders hanging from the back--is not the only kind of fire truck out there. Over history, fire trucks have evolved in multiple ways with multiple methods of fighting fires. In the era of the bucket brigade, the truck was focused on getting the most firefighters to the fire quickly. Likewise, some trucks don't carry much water and rely primarily on hydrants for their water supply. Other trucks, especially those in rural areas, cannot depend on there being hydrants around, and many are essentially small-rig trucks consisting almost entirely of a water tank to make sure they have enough water to handle any problem.

It is important that there is such a wide variety of fire trucks and fire apparatuses because fire departments are so varied themselves across the country. Rural fire departments are quite different from urban ones, and every place has to adapt to their circumstances. In poorer areas, fire departments are often partially or wholly staffed by volunteers, and residents have to pay into the service like a form of fire insurance. For this reason, smaller, cheaper, older trucks that are still serviceable are important to for a department operating on a shoe-string budget.

Used fire trucks is obviously a speciality product that probably won't have many listings in the yellow pages. Many fire apparatus outlets have turned to the Internet to display their catalog of new and used fire apparatuses. When trying to decide on the best truck for yourself or your department, obviously price will be a factor, but don't forget to compare companies by seeking out references from the vendor or referrals for associates and colleagues.

You also have to balance geographic location amongst all these factors: when it comes down to it, how are you going to get the truck from the vendor to your location? Make sure that full delivery costs are calculated into the price. This way, you will be sure to find the new or used fire trucks that are not only affordable, but of the highest quality and ready to serve your community right when you need it to.
