Considering Buying A Home? Maybe You Should Clean Up Rather Than Buy Up

By:

Maybe You Dont Need a Bigger House.

One of the TV networks is always showing couples buying ridiculously large houses.

Why do any 2 people need 4500 square feet of house? Usually they are at work most of the time anyway. They might not even walk into many of the rooms more than occasionally.

What do most people do?

They get up, go to work, eat out 3 meals, go home and watch a little TV in bed before they go to sleep. They have been in the bedroom, bathroom and garage. They work all the time to pay for the big house they dont use or enjoy. In fact, they are slaves to the mortgage.

Squatters could move in and they might not even realize it for a long time.

But what if you settle for something smaller?

A smaller house could really work better, even for small families. Most people who have children only have 1 or 2. And families work better if they spend more time together.

In a big house parents might not even see the kids very often, much less know what is going on with them.

And then theres all the stuff people accumulate.

Stuff and junk tend to grow to fit the available space, however large it is. So if you have 4500 square feet of space you will probably fill it with junk.

A lot of the junk you will accumulate will be GARBAGE. It needs to be discarded or recycled.

Some of it will be toys and clothing and furniture you no longer use or particularly want. Its stuff other people could use if you could bring yourself to part with it. It can be donated for a tax write off.

Youll also probably have exercise equipment you dont use except as a clothes rack.

Youll have a guest room no one ever stays in and an office you dont use because you are always at work.

So why buy it and pay for it if you dont use it?

Keeping a roof over your head is different from buying a big old honking house to shelter 4500 square feet of junk!

You might think of it as avoiding being any more of a bankers slave than you already are.
