Considerations For A Soaking Tub

By:

After debating whether to purchase a soaking tub or a shower stall, you've decided to take the plunge into a tub. You love a nice hot shower, but you feel like you'll get more use out of the tub and want the room and enjoyment of taking a nice bubble bath. Or perhaps shower stalls are just a little too claustrophobic for you.

Everything in life comes down to location, location, location. If you're remodeling your bathroom, it's easier, and much cheaper, to keep the plumbing right where it is. However, there are certain instances where the original placement just isn't the most ideal setup. You need to think about how to maximize the space and what will be best in the long run. Those on a budget should stick to the original plan and find other methods to get the most out of your space.

Next comes the important decision of choosing what type of soaking tub you want. The most commonly installed tub is a three-wall alcove or recessed bathtub. Like the name suggests, they have walls on three sides and only one side is finished. If you're using the tub for a shower too, you need to make sure the walls are waterproof. A corner tub usually has only one finished side too and is triangular. The visible wall is often curved and if large enough, can easily fit two people. The last option is a freestanding tub. Freestanding tubs are often the focal point of the room so keep that in mind when choosing a style. A clawfoot tub will make quite a statement in your bathroom.

Soaking tubs come in all different shapes, styles, and materials. Before making your final selection, consider what type of materials are easiest to clean, as well as what will match your décor. Acrylic is the most popular because they won't stain or fade and they are easy to keep clean. Porcelain is the second most popular but it's cold to the touch and you have to be careful of chips and scratches. Other choices include glass, cast iron, and marble.

Lastly, think about if you want a full spa treatment or just a normal soaking tub to get you squeaky clean. A spa treatment means it's time to look at whirlpools. They'll be a beautiful and relaxing addition to any home, but if water jets aren't your thing, stick to the basics. Either way, you'll be sparkling new and fresh for the start of a new day.
