Consider These Thoughts When Selecting Childrens Jodhpurs And Riding Breeches

By:

If your child tells you that he or she really wants to take up horse riding, you may pause and think for a moment. Isn't this one of the most expensive pastimes available, you might think, before you begin to realise how exciting and joyous this should be. Horse riding is truly enjoyable after all, with an unrivalled sense of freedom and well-being, introducing your child to nature and all that is healthy about the outdoors. Let's face it, there are many less palatable choices than horse riding in our world of today!

One of the first tasks that you need to accomplish before they embark on those initial horse riding lessons is to choose their apparel. Right at the top of your mind must be safety, of course, as there is some risk attached. However, you should also be aware that horse-riding equipment and tack have been developed over many hundreds of years to take into account pure form and safety and a lot of your work has been done for you in this respect.

As you prepare you realise that you need to find the best riding boots, hats and upper wear, but will also need to find children's jodhpurs for your fledgling rider. Children's jodhpurs are miniature versions of adult jodhpurs, but often the more youthful items have an added element of colour or flair. Remember that young people still need to look "cool" as they take part in their hobbies or pastimes and begin to build up those rich life experiences.

We know that children's jodphurs must be protective, but they must also be comfortable and well constructed in order to resist wear and tear. Additional padding on the seat and knees is common, as these areas have the most potential for friction related damage.

Fundamentally, children's jodhpurs are available in several styles and fun designs, made out of stretchable materials. They have some flexibility built in to the seat area, while conversely the lower leg fits snugly. This design takes into account the need for the lower legs to contact the horse for control, while allowing movement in the seat during riding.

Always remember that these items of clothing must be specifically tailored for your child at the present moment in time. Never be tempted to estimate that your child will "grow into" their clothing, as while they may still be growing rather quickly you must ensure that the jodhpurs will do their job right now and not at some stage ahead. It's very important that the item fits correctly to ensure controllability, comfort and safety.

The question sometimes arises whether you should choose children's riding breeches or jodhpurs. These products are very similar to one another, but breeches are designed to extend to the calf, while jodhpurs extend to the ankle area. As such, one can be worn with short boots, while breeches should only be worn with longer riding boots.
