A smoker can get upset at just the thought of not having that next cigarette even if they just had one. It is because they give you a physical reaction that you probably can not even explain and you are attached to them emotionally and you probably can not explain that either. A lot of the smoking habit is caused by the conditioning you have done to yourself over the years. It has become a part of almost everything you do. You smoke after you eat, you smoke while you are on the phone, you smoke on your way to work, you smoke on your lunch break, etc. and so on.

In order to quit smoking, most people need to reduce their nicotine intake nicotine slowly in order to quit successfully, but it is the other habits you will also have to break in order to quit too. You must learn to do these other things without lighting up. In other words, you must recondition yourself all over again to do certain things without associating them with smoking cigarettes. This can be as difficult as doing without the nicotine. What could motivate you make these changes is learning what benefits you will gain by stopping smoking cigarettes now.

If you have smoked for many years, you might think the damage is already done to your body and wonder what would be the point in quitting now. Actually, the body can repair itself given time. If you are thirty years old now and smoke, by the time you are forty five your chances of developing heart disease will likely not be any greater than someone who never smoked at all. If you have stomach ailments like chronic heartburn or a peptic ulcer, the chances of these conditions going away are increased when you stop smoking.

Many smokers stop doing physical activities that require a lot of endurance such as swimming, running, or sports because they are no longer able to do these things without giving out easily. Doing any physical activity, even having sex, can greatly improve because you will regain much of your stamina after you have been stopped smoking for a short length of time. You will be getting much more oxygen in your blood and to your brain.

The cosmetic affects of quitting smoking will be noticeable after a while too. Your skin will stop wrinkling prematurely, your teeth will stop turning yellow. You will reduce your risk of gum disease and other cancers. You will not smell bad, unless of course you do not shower. You will save money.
