Connecting The Dots Between Food And Health

By:

You are what you eat and yet what you are putting into your mouth may just be killing you. It may be hard to hear and difficult to realize but what we eat may not be serving us and according to many experts may just be killing us. Of course, in many instances this is just opinion but when you look at it rationally these individuals may be onto something.

Several decades have passed since the heyday of the last generation and their dinner table setting of meat and potatoes with all the trimmings of butter, gravy, apple pie and ice cream. Seems the experts have cried loud enough to convince us that all this wasn't good for us and needed to be changed. However, if you will look closely, you will notice a significant difference between now and then; now obesity is running rampant and is classified as an epidemic that is plaguing society. Back then people in general were healthier and happier.

You might be asking the question that seems to be on everyone's mind; what is the deal? If we are now consuming in mass quantities the low fat and low cholesterol foods recommended by the experts, why are we as a society still obese and unhealthy in greater numbers? Could this all be a sick trick?

As bad as the foods of yesterday appears to have been, at least they were natural. The over processing in the lab or adding of chemicals had not yet produced the foods that found their ways on to the grocery store shelves as they do today, all under the guise of making them better for consumers. Our bodies were designed to process foods that come from nature, not the highly processed gauntlet of stations our food goes through today. There is a rising number of Celiac disease cases and it is believed that this is the reason why. Even the FDA stamp has been added to the foods that are causing alarm in the general population as being good for us to consume, when in fact this might be where much of the trouble is coming from.

It is important to realize that the FDA is not really on our side, as a matter of fact they are a government agency and as a result the food pyramid doesn't reflect what is dietary best for Americans but instead stands for what lobby groups are paying the most money into the government at the present moment. If it is the dairy farmers than the amount of dairy products Americans need to consumer goes up if it is the farmers then meat and vegetables go up. It is all part of the bigger picture and one that Americans need to be aware of.
