Connecticut Residents Follow Five Home Security Steps To Live Safely

By:

Connecticut is one of the wealthiest states in the country, and as such, it"s at a higher risk for crime. The small state is surrounded by many other states, and because everyone is so aware that there is so much money in Connecticut, criminals are willing to travel there to rob people. In order to make sure people aren"t able to successfully steal from you and to reduce their desire to target you, you should increase your home security in a number of ways. Here are some tips to get you started:

5. Never leave any doors unlocked on the outside of your house, including the one that leads into your garage. Many people who feel that they live in safe neighborhoods will leave some of their doors unlocked while they"re at home, and some even do it while they"re away at work. No matter what time of day it is or where you are, you should always lock your house up so it"s not easy for criminals to just waltz right in.

4. If you"ve been thinking about getting a pet and can handle the responsibility, then go ahead and get a dog. The larger the dog you can handle, the more likely they are going to be able to scare criminals away. Big dogs often scare nearly everyone, and many dog breeds are incredibly loyal to their owners so they may actually try to defend you if someone were to break into your house. Just be aware that these are not fool proof ways to increase your home security and that many dogs may not actually be able to fend of thieves.

3. Protect your entire property with a home security system that is monitored by private professionals. Some people opt for cheaper home alarm systems because they think that simple motion detectors are enough to keep them safe, but experienced criminals can tell the difference. If a basic alarm goes off, it may be enough to scare criminals away, but unless they can tell that private security guards are coming to check on that property, they won"t necessarily leave. If you"re going to invest in an alarm, you may as well get the right one that is going to keep you safe. Make sure your alarm is monitored by a private team so you can count on them to respond if anything happens.

2. Try not to leave any expensive items sitting around that display your wealth. Even if you want to keep up with your neighbors and own a fancy car, don"t park it out on the street or in your driveway. Keep your cars parked in your garage whenever possible and keep other expensive items out of view. You don"t want to tempt criminals by confirming their presumption that all Connecticut households are wealthy.

1. Change the locks on your doors whenever you move into a new house, and by strict about who you give spare keys to. Never leave a spare key outside of your house because that"s a serious home security no-no.
