Concrete Testing Fraud Streams through NYC & Connecticut

By: Paul Justice

After New York City experienced the crane accidents, they are no longer ready and willing to take any chances with construction mishaps. Eyes were opened and lights were shone on the cracks that the construction industry in their foundation. Whether it is poor training, shoddy equipment, or lack of safety standards, New York City has taken notice and have started to do something about it. However, even through the city's efforts, there has been evidence to show that a New York City's concrete testing lab has falsified reports and findings. Connecticut has also been seeing this outflow from the city pouring into neighborhoods of their own. How is the city supposed to make any strides to becoming clear, brighter, greater if its own citizens claiming to aid in the effort are sabotaging it.

Testwell Laboratories was the company hired to do its service on some of the city's buildings. Testwell Laboratories was hired in the past years to, "analyze the strength of concrete on a raft of public projects, including work for the city, as well as legions of commercial and residential buildings that were constructed in the area. But investigators have discovered evidence indicating that for at least five years, the company has falsified some concrete test results, according to several people who have been briefed on the investigation, being conducted by the Manhattan district attorney, Robert M. Morgenthau."

What the city is concerned about is finding which reports were falsified, because they are going to have to go back and recheck every building that might have reported false findings. This could be a very tedious task if Testwell Laboratories refusing to cooperated. Of course, Testwell Laboratories is denying all of the allegations. When officials analyzed all of Testwell's contracts, they took a step back in discouragement. This is because Testwell has over $12 million dollars in contracts, and has already finished many projects for the city. These projects include school, tunnels, and bridges all for the city of New York. Another incident is that Testwell had a contract with the New York Yankees Stadium, in which some irregularities have been found.

What this investigation of Testwell must now due, is to determine how many of the buildings that were contracted to them were falsified. What must be figured out is if there were only a couple of slips, or if they're whole operations were based on lies. There is some light to this situation in which expert contractors have said that the concrete used in the city is of high quality and that it shouldn't be of too concern that the results may have been fudged because it is very unlikely that the concrete be of subpar quality. However, it is a law that these tests be done and that is exactly what the city intends to do.

Errors in the construction industry end up in detrimental events that often cannot be avoided. Safety, training, and equipment are the most important elements in the in the construction industry to ensure quality work resulting in a successful project. When theses elements are not paid attention to and passed off, mishaps happened that cause serious consequence. If you or a loved one has been a victim of a construction accident, contact a Connecticut construction accident lawyer. They have the experience necessary to deal with large insurance companies as well as intimidating government officials.
