Concrete Polishing: Not What You See In Pavements

Concrete is definitely not the most popular choice when someone decides to look for the best way to decorate his or her floor. After all, the very mention of concrete invokes images of less-than admirable common concrete that is found in pavements or streets. Most would thus resort to the more traditional tiles, or even settle for covering up their floors with carpeting.

What can I say about concrete as a material? Well, first off, you cannot discount the durability of concrete. If you check concrete streets, they last so long even when punished by heavy trucks, alternating weather patterns, and all sorts of urban dirt on an everyday basis. This toughness lends them to being very decent material. If only it were only more beautiful, everyone would use concrete for their homes.

This is where I will start talking about polished concrete. What is it, you ask? Basically, it's just that; concrete brought to a shine via polishing. The only difference is the method by which this polish is achieved. You see, polished concrete is done by a series of diamond tooling. To the layperson, that simply means that the concrete floor is subjected to different levels of grinding, then polishing using different diamonds. There we go, diamonds! Things are starting to sound glamorous for concrete.

This process having been done, you will undoubtedly agree with me when I say that it turns out sleek and elegant. But, for those of you who would still like to experiment, ask your contractor about dyeing the floor. This way, you can achieve a completely new look. Concrete is surprisingly friendly with dye, and the process of polishing itself will trap the colors in to make it last.

So, in conclusion, polished concrete is both sturdy and glamorous. This alone gives it an edge over their competitors, but wait 'til you see the cost. You don't need materials; chances are your house already has a concrete foundation. All you really need to do is find a contractor in your vicinity.
