Concept Of Writing Break Up Letter

By:

Break-up letters or good-bye letters are used when someone wants to end the relationship with his or her partner but is uncomfortable to convey the decision personally. These letters make it easier for a person to deal with a break-up situation.

Break-up letters help people express their feelings freely and completely. It is a medium through which they can pour their heart out and say everything they want to, which otherwise they would have found difficult to do. Break-up letters also help people in dumping their partners gracefully especially in situations where the partner can resort to verbal or physical abuse. These letters come to the rescue of those people who fear getting emotional after meeting their partners and thereafter change their minds.

Unlike other personal letters, writing a break-up letter is a difficult task because break up is a sensitive matter. You would not like your decision to be misunderstood by your partner. Therefore, whenever you write a break-up letter, always remember that the letter should be polite and straightforward. Give all the reasons that made you decide to end the relationship. However, do not go overboard while doing it. This way you can give rise to misunderstandings and fresh arguments. Also, ensure that the letter is brief. Do not discuss in detail about the happy days you had spent together. Doing so can hurt your partners feelings. The purpose of a break-up letter is to simply convey your dumping message. So, strictly stick to the purpose only.

Before you start writing a break-up letter, brainstorm and identify all the remote and immediate reasons encouraging you to leave the partner. List down all such reasons. Now, pick up the reasons that are important and support your decision. Write these important reasons in your letter.

You should neither be defensive nor accusative in the letter. Defending your own actions and accusing the partner of his or her mistakes is rude and bad for both of you. Be frank and firm while informing about your decision. At the same time, apologize to your partner for hurting his or her feelings unknowingly at any point of time. Also, thank your partner for coping up with your weaknesses and for the wonderful time spent together. However, do not leave any room for your partner to keep any false hope of revival.

After writing the letter, revise it and send it to your partner.
