Computer-aided Design (cad) In Fashion Designing - 4 Things You Always Wanted To Know

By:

Computers and various computer applications has now become an irreplaceable feature of almost every industry. CAD initially used for architecture and engineering, has now made inroads into the fashion design industry. Most of the educational courses today teach you the computer applications used in this industry. You must learn to use CAD applications proficiently for most employers expect you to have good mastery over them.

*Application: CAD is used mainly at the design stage of clothes. Some designers may transfer hand-made sketches onto the computers, while some may create them directly on the computer using various computer applications. In traditional designing the design in the drawings are initially made using cheaper material and after various alterations the final version is arrived at. With CAD you can simply check out different colors, fabrics, designs, patterns and even try them on virtual models. This aids in requiring far less adjustments to the samples.

*Software: Several types of software are available to aid in the designing process. You can use software to develop a 3D image of the design. You can use a pattern making software or something specifically for embroidery. Certain software lets you create realistic pictures of your design while advanced software also lets you construct a virtual fashion show. Using proper software gives you faster and accurate results.

*Advantages: Using CAD in designing has several advantages, the most noticeable of them being the rendering of the design in 3D which gives a more real world look to the design. Moreover designs made using CAD can have a lot of detail. Adjustments to the design can be made quickly, eliminating the need to have a fresh sketch for every alteration. Using CAD can save precious time, since less adjustments are required the clothes can be readied faster which help to meet deadlines and faster turnaround times during hectic periods of activity.

*Disadvantages: The software and applications used in designing are fairly complex. So anyone not having a complete understanding on using its various features will struggle. Also a beginner or an inexperienced person may not utilize the full potential of the applications which may lead to delays and errors instead of speeding up things. There are some designers who still wish to use paper sketches and feel that computers impede the natural flow that comes from traditional sketching. Such designers tend to resist computers and use them only when unavoidable.

CAD is not here to replace any process. It is supposed to be used alongwith other methods for obtaining superior results to keep up with the demands of the industry, and should be used accordingly.
