Computer Too Slow? Speed Up Computer With These Tips

By:

Your computer performs at its best when it is new and unencumbered by resource-hungry files and programs. Over time and with regular use, a computer becomes loaded with new stuff and exposed to malware which affects its performance. If your computer is showing premature aging, there are steps you can do to speed up computer performance and get it to work faster and more efficiently again. Here are ways how:

Eliminate unnecessary files and programs - Files and programs you no longer need or use only take up space in the computer. Speed up computer performance by deleting these files and freeing up more resources.

If there are files that you want to hang on to or are not sure whether to keep or delete, get another hard drive to back up files and folders you might need in the future. You could also transfer files to a removable storage device for future reference.

Eliminate start-up programs - Start-up programs appear when you fire up your computer. The more programs that are run during start up, the more time and resources the computer requires. If you use elaborate wallpapers, consider using a basic background instead.

Perform disk cleanup - Each time you save and delete files, open attachments and browse the Internet, the computer records these activities. Although these records take up only a small amount of space, over time they build up and become substantial enough to slow down your computer. The disk cleanup utility will guide you in deleting unnecessary files, including temporary Internet files and cookies that you really do not need.

Defragment - Each time a file is added or removed, it affects the storage system of the computer which leads to disk fragmentation. Fragmentation makes it more difficult for the computer to retrieve files since bits and pieces are stored in different areas of the computer. Speed up computer by defragmenting your hard drive and get your files in order. Your computer will then be able to run more efficiently.

Eliminate malware - If you use the Internet frequently or share files with other people, you are exposing your computer to malware infection. By installing reliable antivirus and anti-spyware software, you can eliminate harmful infections that will have a significant effect on your computer. Malware is sneaky so the best way to get rid of them and speed up computer is to prevent them from finding their way into the system.

An updated antivirus and anti-spyware can also remove malware that has already found its way into your computer. Once good anti-malware software has been installed, scan your computer regularly - more frequently if you often download files. This will protect your system and keep it running.
