So what is Whole Body Vibration, I hear you ask?
Whole Body Vibration is the latest breakthrough in fitness, injury recovery and health courtesy of the Russian Space Program. Using programmable vibrating platforms to create fitness and increase bone density in Cosmonauts who had long stays in space has always been a big issue for every space program. The Russians came up with technology and now the whole world has caught on. It is being used in weight loss clinics, fitness centers, and therapy rooms such as Chiropractors and Physiotherapists all over the world.
Scientific research on the effects of vibration platforms has been conducted all over the world. Resulting publications in leading medical research journals suggests that people with debilitating conditions such as osteoporosis, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinsons Disease, and stroke victims can yield the benefits of exercise while working within their personal limitations and minimising stress on the joints and ligaments.
Research suggests Vibration Technology may increase the production of regenerative and repair hormones, improve blood circulation, strengthen bone tissue, improve lymph drainage and increase basal metabolic rate. Oscillating platforms may even support skeletal realignment.
Benefits attributed to Vibration technology include

  1. improved muscle strength and performance

  2. improved training quality and effectivness

  3. increased stamina

  4. increased flexibility, mobility and coordination

  5. accelerated recovery after workouts

  6. reduced aches & pains

  7. enhanced critical blood flow throughout the body

  8. increased bone density

  9. enhanced 'explosive strength'

  10. accelerated weight loss

  11. increased fat burning

  12. improved collagen production and skin tone

  13. reduced appearance of cellulite

  14. decreased cortisol levels

  15. increased production of 'happiness hormones'- serotonin and neurothrophine

  16. improved recovery from injury

  17. Who can benefit from using a vibration platform?

    Whole Body Vibration is great for anyone wanting to improve their strength, tone and flexibility as well as increasing their balance and coordination. The vibration platforms have also been used to help a wide variety of physical health complaints and reported benefits include an increase in a feeling of optimism; the stimulating effects of the vibration machine can help counteract certain types of depression and loss of motivation.
    Whole Body Vibration test results suggest it may have beneficial effects on:

    • Osteoporosis

    • Arthritis

    • Sports Injuries

    • Skin healing

    • Joint Pain

    • Bone Loss

    • Stress

    • Sleep Problems

    • Aging conditions

    • Lymphatic Drainage Problems

    • Poor Circulation

    • Parkinsons Disease

    • Diabetes

    • Anxiety

    • Emotional Conditions

    • Hormonal Disturbances

    • Bladder weakness

    • Chronic Fatigue

    • Memory Loss

    • Headaches

    On osteoporosis: One of the most devastating complications of long-term space flight is bone loss. So we think of a post-menopausal woman as losing 2-3% of their bone per year, astronauts are losing 2% of their bone per month. The muscular stimulation of the oscillating platform puts tiny stresses on your bones and your bones respond by growing stronger. The technology also aims to inhibit cells that attack the bone. Health experts warn that osteoporosis, if not properly treated, can have a deadly cascade effect.
    Some History on Whole Body Vibration
    Vibration therapy was first developed by scientists from the Soviet Space Program in a desire to improve bone density and muscle integrity in cosmonauts who experience prolonged times in micro gravity. The Russians discovered that cosmonauts, removed from the effects of gravity, developed significant bone density loss and muscle wasting (or sarcopenia). Profound improvements in muscle and bone density were obtained by using vibrating platforms to artificially super compensate for the future loss of gravity. As a result of this effect, Veteran Russian cosmonaut Valery Polyakov, a medical doctor, set the current world record for the longest continuous spaceflight when he spent about 438 days aboard Russia's Mir space station between 1994 and 1995. Then the Russian Olympic team found and embraced the technology after trialing Whole Body Vibration therapy with their gymnasts. Not until the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989, did WBV technology find its way into other countries. WBV technology is finally being embraced by NASA, Professional Sports Teams, along with many allied health, medical and fitness experts throughout the United States. Decades of research and endorsement by professional athletes ensure that this innovative machine produces effective results.
    How does it work?

    In traditional strength and power training the load on the muscles is determined by the weight lifted. A specific frequency and amplitude of vibration is chosen and the movement of the plate loads the limbs. The vibrations stimulate a reflex contraction within the muscle which leads to a high level of muscle activation and exertion. The superior muscle-activation that the vibration machine stimulates compared to conventional training, means that less time is required to work muscle groups completely.
    Using Whole Body Vibration it is the application of oscillating vibrating frequencies to the entire bodys muscular, skeletal, organ, glandular and nervous systems; the differing vibration frequencies have differing effects on body function:

    • lower frequencies are very effective for strength training, warming up and cooling down;

    • higher frequencies are usually used for massage and increasing blood circulation to peripheral body tissues.

    The vibrations are created by a mechanically vibrating platform and transmitted to the body through the feet or hands which are in contact with the vibrating plate, platform or handlebars. As a result:

    • the body automatically adjusts to these mechanical stimuli by responding with a stretch reflex;

    • this stretch reflex occurring in the muscles, is actually a reflexive adjustment that is occurring in the brain;

    • consequently, Whole Body Vibration causes the brain to train in a way that induces a neuro-regenerative effect, in other words, the brain is rejuvenated and restored to a healthier state of function.

    Whole Body Vibration enhances your health by noticeably:
    • reduces stress on joints;

    • strengthening of muscles - particularly the back/spine;

    • stimulation of the metabolism and lymph drainage;

    General Rules of Setting Oscillation Speed
    Lower oscillating speed range - in general, the lower speed range is beneficial for bone strengthening, balance control, circulation, abdominal exercises and for those who are rehabilitating, frail and overweight.
    Mid oscillating speed range - is helpful for improving circulation, reducing excess toxicity, combating depression or a general feeling of sluggishness and loss of motivation in life.
    High oscillating speed range - for physically strong, healthy people and those in sports training.
    Until now WBV technology has only been for the rich as most WBV machines have cost more than ten thousand dollars each to purchase. We have made it affordable for people to use WBV technology in the privacy and convenience of their own home with our range of Vibration Platforms at: http://health-fitness-videos.com/

    There is even more information and a video of exercises that can be done on the platforms for those wishing to have a full body workout.
