Competition Swimmers Take Their Gear Serious

By:

Most people, when they go swimming, simply look for their swim suit and a towel. They go to the local swimming pool and have hours of fun swimming and diving into the cold water on a hot summer day. However, there is a lot more to it for those who are serious about swimming and do it not only for fun but also in competition.

For those who swim as a sport there is a lot of swimming gear that is involved. Like any other competitive sport the gear can make a difference in the performance of each individual. They take it seriously and choose carefully their equipment.

On the first pieces of swimming gear that a competition swimmer needs is a suit. They do not look for the long swimming trunks that have have the flower prints all over them like a laui from Hawaii. They generally have full bodysuits that help to make them more slick in the water so that the drag can be reduced and they can slide through the water with greater ease and speed.

Next, also for purposes of reducing drag is the swimming cap. The hair on the head can create friction in the water thus slowing a swimmer down. In the past, a lot of people would have the problem of their swim cap slipping out of place. That problem has been fixed with newer style swim caps that have molded ear sections allowing for better breathing room for the ears and eliminating the slipping issue.

Goggles are the next bit of swim gear that profession swimmers use. These are a bit like buying glasses. They can make a fashion statement about the swimmer so they want to make sure that they choose them carefully. It is important that they get goggles that will do the job in keeping water out so that they can see clearly as they race, but they also want to get something that will match their style and taste as well.

Many swimmers also use nose plugs to keep the water out of their nose as they swim. This is especially needed when they must make a turn because they are doing several laps of the pool and not just one. Nose plugs are not a favorite of swimmers, but they recognize that they must do it and so they use them.

Getting the right swim gear is a serious decision for swimmers. It is also an investment in their success. For that reason, they spend some time making sure that they get the right gear for themselves.
