Comparing Phone Service Provider's Calling Plans

By:

With the price of phone service dropping over 90% in the last 10 years, it's interesting that there are still a lot of SOHO, residential and business users that are still paying old fashioned rates. It's hard to believe that many of the business and home users are still paying Qwest and ATT the same old prices, when ATT and Qwest are giving them digital service, which is actually the same thing as internet phone service, but with a much higher cost to the consumer.

A lot of the consumers and businesses that are using old fashioned POTS(Plain Old Telephone Service) phone service providers, do so because they are afraid that if they changed to a discount landline phone company, or an internet telephone company, the quality of their phone service would diminish. These are the same people that don't have a problem standing in line at the movies and yelling their side of the phone conversation because their cell phone service sucks. Go Figure...

The truth of the matter is, that you can order all types of phone service online for way less than the cost of a plan that comes from Qwest or Verizon, even when you are getting your service from those same providers. Most people don't know that the lower cost long distance phone companies buy the phone services that they resell from AT&T, Qwest and Global Crossing. This means that if you decide to go with a company like Pioneer Telephone or Powernet Global for less than three cents per minute long distance phone service, all the calls you make are actually going over the Big Boy's lines at a fraction of the cost.

If you're looking for a good cell phone deal, check online first. Online cell phone resellers sell cell phones and plans for all the major carriers, but they sell them for less. While the plan fees will be the same as what you would pay signing up directly with the cell phone company, the cell phones that you get from a discounter is usually worth way more money. While you might get a free $100 phone when you sign up directly with the carrier, you might get a $500 or $600 phone for free when you sign up with one of their resellers.

VoIP, VoIP and more VoIP. For those of you who say they hate VoIP phone service and will never use it, why not? Internet phone service has advanced to the point that it is just as good as landline phone service, but at a fraction of the cost. As a matter of fact, all of the major phone carriers are offering VoIP products, and you're buying them, and don't even know that they are a VoIP service. If you've ever bought digital phone service, that's VoIP. If you have phone service from a cable company, that's VoIP too. And guess what, even AT&T and Qwest sell VoIP phone service. So what are you waiting for, save a ton of money and switch to a cheaper VoIP phone company today.

Lowering your monthly phone costs isn't that hard if you're willing to do a little home work. Try using companies like Internet-Phone.org, or Telephone-Service.net to find discount phone service in your area. These companies offer rate calculators to help you find the cheapest calling plans, based on the types of calling you do and the types of call services you use.
