Comparing Dsl, Cable, And Satellite

Comparing Dsl, Cable, And Satellite

By:

For a small business owner, who often operates without many employees, time management is an element to success. If you can't tell the difference between DSL, cable, and satellite connections, then you're being dragged down by a dial-up Internet connection that's slow and you're impairing the efficiency of your operation.

You can afford to be choosy when making a decision between satellite, cable, or DSL connections because high-speed access is so affordable and the competitive market has dwindled to an all-time low.

To get connected using cable the business owner needs to enlist some sort of cable television service first. On the other hand, DSL connections are done over telephone lines and satellite connections use a dish in order to beam the Internet connection to a satellite.

Unlike dial-up, all three options can let the small business owner still use his or her phone while getting connected to the Internet. Some areas don't have access to high-speed Internet access. Unfortunately, they don't have a choice but to use dial-up at a slow rate of speed.

Faster than dial-up connection are DSL, cable, and satellite their speed depends on the company and plan you sign up with. Usually, they're 40 times faster than dial-up connections.

Pros and cons are involved in using each option. With DSL, even if you have 200 people using the service, the speed is still steady. If cable is used by a small business owner, then the speed would depend on how many others are also using it at the same time in the area.

Though satellite is thought to be the best, there's a delay because the signal has much farther to travel. They're also more difficult to install than cable or DSL, making them more expensive.

Cable connections may be affected by how many others are using it in the area, but it charges 3-4 times more than DSL. However, DSL prices often go up at the end of the one-year sign-on special.

You'll need a broadband modem to connect DSL or cable to the Internet. With satellite, you'll need a dish installed. But whichever you choose, if you leave dial-up behind and switch to the faster Internet connection opportunities, then you'll come out ahead.
