Common Bets For Horseracing

By: Megan Lexington

Horseracing can be a very exciting sport. There is nothing like the adrenaline rush that you get when the horses are let out of the gate. The people around you will loudly cheer on the horses of their choice and your heart will pound with excitement. However, none of that compares to the feeling of winning on that horse race. There is a lot to learn when you first begin betting on the horse races. Learning the horses is a very important part of the sport. However, there is another part that you will want to know, this is how to place your bet. There are many different bets that you can make on any given horse race.

One thing that you need to know is when you win, the amount you win will have to do with the odds that are on that horse. The way that you bet will also influence the amount of money you will win. Here are some of the more common bets for horse betting and racing:

Single Bet: This is one bet on a certain horse to win the race.

Place Bet: This means that you are betting on a certain horse to come in first or second.

Show Bet: You are betting on a certain horse to come in either first, second or third.

Combination Bet: This bet will cover between two to four horses to win in a certain order.

Quiniela: This bet requires that your two chosen horses come in at first and second place; either horse can come in at either position. This is the bet that many beginners choose to stick to for a while. It seems a little easier to win since the horses can come in first or second.

Perfecta: This is a bet, which requires your two chosen horses to finish in the same exact order you bet them to.

Trifecta: This bet requires that your three chosen horses finish in the exact order you bet them to.

Superfecta: This bet requires your four chosen horses to cross the finish line in the exact order you chose them to.

Pick 3: This bet is done by choosing three horses to win three separate races in a row.

Pick 6: When you place this bet, you will be picking the six winners of six consecutive races. You must make this bet before the first race begins.

Daily Double: This bet requires that you pick the winners for both the first and the second races of that racing day.

If you are just starting out on your journey of betting on the horses, then you know that the bets are not the only thing for you to learn. You also need to learn about the horses themselves. You need to educate yourself on how to read the forms, understanding track conditions, handicaps, and much more. However, knowing the different types of bets will be invaluable information that you will also need to know when you go up to that betting window.
