Comforters And Home Decor

By:

The standard bedding in many households are comforters. These can range in price from elegant imports to low thread count quality. Taking the time to choose the right comforter will add touch of refinement to your bedroom and enhance the decor in whole house. Simply put: A bed comforter is nothing more than a bag covering placed on the top of the bed. Nowadays the comforter can be filled with either down or artificial fabric. Typically comforters are not large enough to cover the shams or box spring, but are used more as a 'final decorative touch' to the of bed. Because of the nature of bed comforters in that they do not provide excessive warmth, they are often used along with blankets, throws and other bedding.

Fill power is a term that is used quite a bit, in the bedding world. This basically refers to the quality of a comforter. The higher the fill power the more superior the quality and the better chance that your comforter will last longer. 550 to about 750 is average to good quality, anything 800 or above is considered excellent. Thread count is also used when measuring the fabric quality of a comforter. Most often this method is used for sheets and simply refers to the number of threads that are in one square inch of fabric. The higher the thread count, the better quality the comforter. The two main types of comforters are down and feather. Down is often considered the best natural insulation material. Because it is made up of fluffy clusters of feathers. In a down comforter, tiny air pockets expand when in contact with body heat. The other option; feather comforters, are also very soft and comfortable and are great at trapping heat. However, people with allergic reactions should avoid these.Proper care of your comforter will keep it in great shape for many years. Below is a list of quick reference tips for the care and keeping of your comforter set:

1) No matter what materials you decide on remember to only wash a comforter in cold water. (Some comforters are ok to dry in a dryer on low heat, but as a rule it's best to let them air dry on the clothesline in nice weather. Do not for get to read the care label!)
2) Keep your comforter out of the direct sun light
3) Spot washing with minimal water is the best way to remove small spots.
4) Having your comforter washed by at a good dry cleaner is well worth the investment ad many manufacturers recommend this.
