There is a lot for you to learn if what you know of California is based on the TV shows you have been watching. This is a huge, diverse state. For example, look at Crescent City on the northwest side of the state, and compare it to Barstow on the southeast side. Crescent City is located on the coast and has a yearly rainfall of approximately 70 inches, with the maximum temperature usually being around 65 degrees in July. Barstow is located in the desert and it has fewer than 5 inches of rain every year, as well as a maximum temperature of 102 degrees in July. Every climate in between can be found in this state as California has the ideal temperature for everybody.

Keep your snow gear when moving to California. There are a lot of things to do in the winter throughout the mountain areas of this state. Being only a 2 hour drive from the mountains or the beach is one of the best things about residing in the Sacramento region.

If you have a basement, you may have to have a yard sale to sell some of those items, since there are not a lot of basements in California. Most of the houses in California are constructed on a slab foundation. Basements are generally located in houses constructed on a hill in which the slope permits it to be added to the foundation. Although there are a limited amount of basements, there are a lot of self-storage buildings for those special items you can't let go.

Don't bring your riding lawn mower since nearly all yards are little and an electric lawn mower is a better choice. Since the water supply is limited, it is advised that drought tolerate landscaping be used.

Nice fences foster good neighbors in California. It is normal to see a six foot redwood fence. Because the yards have limited space, fences give you more privacy for cookouts as well as a secure area for the kids and pets to play. If your yard is a beautiful garden paradise, a fence allows you to not have the beauty and peace destroyed by having to look at a neighbor's unkempt yard. When I visited with family in Pennsylvania, I was enthralled by the huge gardens, and the fact that they didn't have fences. I questioned where they put their dogs while they went to their job. Who wants to see corroded lawn furniture or pools sitting on the ground? I like private yards, even if they are smaller.

Of course, California does have earthquakes. There is an informative government site that displays the live occurrence of every earthquake California has. There are a lot of minor earthquakes daily, they rarely make the news. Unlike tornadoes, earthquakes don't make trailer parks their primary target. Even though all of us should be ready for an emergency, an earthquake shouldn't make you worry or be continuously afraid.

Come to California for all the wonderful restaurants. The wide variety of restaurants is homage to the diverse culture of individuals who make up the people of California. So start packing and move to California. There is still tons of room left.
