Combining Furniture Styles For A Fantastic Dining Room

Deciding on the best dining table & matching dining furniture can be tricky. When you start shopping for furniture & dining furniture for your dining space you will need to decide on a few of the different aspects. The first thing you may want to decide whether you want your dining table & dining chairs all the same design, or whether a contrast would be more practical for you.

There can be nothing more boring than a matching sideboard, dining table & dining chairs when the furniture in question is of the inexpensive wooden variety. You don't need to spend a fortune, mix up colours, styles & textures, one idea is if your table is ultra modern what about some fully upholstered chairs with metal legs? Getting dining chairs that are made in modern finishes but in slightly traditional shapes like the Kartell Ghost chair can look really great with sleek dining tables & can allow you to add in your own personal style.

Even if you do buy a table & chairs in the same design why not add another totally unique element into the room, perhaps an antique Chinese cabinet? Tie the two in together with an old painting in an ornate frame, or a Persian rug under the table & you have a beautifully unique dining space.

Although it can be a brilliant idea, combining modern with antique furniture can be difficult to make work well. You will need to take a good look at the room you are planning to use. Is the ceiling nice & high? What is the floor made of? Are there period features in the room, like a ceiling rose or skirting boards? What type of windows do you have, & what are the window treatments?

If you live in a boxy flat or newly built property with no period features adding antiques into the mix will probably be tricky, & you might be better to stay away from the antiques altogether & use all modern, or modern mixed with fairly conservative pieces & some cosy touches if you don't want a too modern dining area. As long as you keep it interesting, with colours that work together yet are not the same, & a few different textures even the most ordinary 1970's house can look fantastic.

The extra touches in a dining room are often a crucial part, bringing different colours in together, as well as adding some contrast & interest to matching dining sets. Accessories for your dining space could include wall mirrors, which can bring light & space to a room, art work an interesting piece of art can provide a talking point, vases of flowers, & lighting, perhaps a a table lamp on the sideboard. If you Havent got a lot to spend & haven't been able to splash out on the dining furniture a really great accessory for instance a fantastic table lamp or an Italian wall mirror can really add something special.
