Combining Colors

Considering being able to utilize the right framing selections these can make an inexpensive print or poster appear to be an expensive work of art. In terms of mat colors you want one that serves to enhance your art. A double or a triple mat is ideal if you want it to pick up a color from the image. Keep in mind that top mats should be neutral while color is great for bottom mats. When it comes to double and triple mats these add dimension to any framing.

In determining the mat width you should take into consideration the width of the frame and the size of the piece. Avoid making your mat the same width as your frame. What happens is a striped appearance that detracts from the image is formed. The bottom mat of a double mat should extend at least one half inch. When it comes to mats having a uniform width on all sides is good.

You may have some floating prints and images that have deckled edges. Any floating image will be hinged to the front of your mat board. Adding a border to the image is a matter of using a mat board. There are prints with deckled edges that are uneven but they can be placed on a mat even if not at the perfect center. When there is nothing distinctive about the edges the mats can be cut so that these pieces can be easily placed over the print's edges.

When it comes to framing photographs it is not that simple. What works well for formal pictures like wedding photographs and portraits are ornate wood frames in silver, gold and a variety of natural finishes but simple wood or metal frames in black or silver or with light natural wood frames are ideal when it comes to art photographs especially ones in black and white. Competing with black and white photographs are gold finished or cherry wood frames.

For antique photographs complex framing is a good idea. Dealing with old black and white photos involves the use of silver frames. Choices for frames for sepia prints include antiqued gold finished frames and wooden ones like mahogany, ebony walnut, and cherry. Should you have traditional paintings including portraits and landscapes go for fabric liners and ornate mouldings. Choose simple frames and avoid liners when dealing with contemporary paintings.

Framing isn't just for prints, paintings, posters, and photographs. If you have things lying around like fabrics, theater tickets, old letters and postcards, political buttons, christening dresses, and many more you can frame these and hang them at home or in the office. In general the look for gallery style framing is minimalist. Other than matte black wooden frames ones with natural finishes are also used here.

Without any ornamentation, the frames only have straight edges. For the thick mats used for gallery style framing they come in 8 ply and with various shades of white. Considering a small image measuring around 3 by 5 inches, mats measuring 5 inches can be placed on all sides. What the heavy mats do is make the piece look important aside from drawing into the image the viewer's eye.

Elaborate wooden frames work best with antique furnishings and reproductions and this is why they are popular. Considering the high sheen silver and gold frames, these reflect the lavish mood of the 1980s but coming through antiqued silver and gold frames is the restrained spirit of the 1990s. Considering the metal frames from ten years ago the industrial metal frames are much different. New versions are not only wider but they have cleaner lines and brushed finishes with cross hatching. In the same way as earlier metal frames, these are the most economical framing choices.

When it comes to famous photographers they have been able to bring back art photography while restoration services are to thank for making it popular to restore and frame your family's own antique photographs. When it comes to antique posters they are expensive to frame considering their size but they are less expensive when compared to many original artworks and their value continues to increase with time. People with enough wall space as well as the loft dwellers can benefit from these.
