Colour ink cartridges are used to store ink in printers. These ink is what is used to carry out print outs in full color. To be able to produce color, the cartridges usually have a total of three colors in different chambers. These include yellow, cyan and magenta. These three colors can be mixed to produce different types of colors when you are printing.

The cost of the cartridge is affected by various things. This includes whether it has a print head or not. Cartridges which do not have print heads are usually cheaper than those that have them. The brand of the printer is also a determinant of the cost of the cartridge. The prices of cartridges used on some brands of printers are usually more costly than other brands.

When your ink runs out, you can have it refilled with original ink or compatible ink. Compatible ink is usually cheaper and produces good printing just as original inks. Compatible inks are usually manufactured by third party manufactures who are not the original manufactures of printers.

Original inks are produced by the printer manufacturer. Remanufactured inks are usually produced from recycled materials. However, the quality of printing is not just dependent on the type of ink used, but also on the quality of the paper and type of printer.

Refills can be done by going to refill stations or by using a home kit. A home kit will allow you to refill the ink yourself when it runs out. It is advisable to buy inks from credible stores. You can purchase the home kit when you are purchasing the cartridge or separately. It is advisable to refill the cartridges when they are still fresh. If the cartridge stays for too long without being refilled, the print head may get clogged.

You can purchase cartridges online or from your local stores. Do your research before settling for a particular shopper. This is because some stores offer discounts on colour ink cartridges. You should know the brand of the printer and the model number before you set out to make your purchase.
