Colored Stone Jewelry: Let The Color Reflect You

By:

Colors have always been part of our lives. In fact, there is a color associated with every facet of our day-to-day activities and feelings. When we are down, for instance, they would say we are feeling blue. When we hold out for hope, we say that we would look for greener pastures. And whenever there are contests, I can never forget the typical red ribbon for the first prize. Color is everywhere; not a day passes by that we do not see it. Our clothes, our transportation and generally, our surroundings are embellished with color. Needless to say, color is not only significant in being a symbolic part of our lives; it is also what keeps our world from being dull.

Imagine a world of merely black and white. There would be no variety to anything; no one would ever be able to differentiate any other difference than that of the black or the white. Indeed, color makes the world more interesting and gives our surroundings more variety and life. And to something that is already known for its general appeal, color serves to enhance it and make it infinitely more interesting. I am talking about the colored stone jewelry.

I am always inclined to associate colored gemstones with that have an accorded birth month to them: the birthstones. Colored gemstones have always been believed to have an equivalent symbolism for ones month of birth; that is why in each of the twelve months we have, there is a colored gemstone. Today this colored jewelry is used for adorning ones self. They are said to enhance whatever one wears, if with considerable thought. Back then, though, these colored gemstones were associated with different values, and these values reflected those of the one wearing it.

Several cultures in the past believed the colored stones to be possessing of magic or mystical value. But most of all, they reflected what the wearer was feeling or engaged in. the yellow stone, for instance, signified generosity in a woman and secrecy in a man. The red stone can indicate a womans haughtiness or a mans nobility. Blue stones can refer to a womans upright social standing while referring to wisdom in a man; the green colored gemstone can reflect a womans ambition or a mans joy. Many of the most popular colored gemstones we have today are in either of the colors red, blue and green. For red, we have the rubies. For blue, we have the topaz. And for green, we have the emeralds.

As the times have changed, so have the meanings we have placed behind different colors. Blue, for example, can now be associated with competitive advantage or sadness. The color green can now be said to refer to hope and happiness. The color red is more popularly attributed to love.

As for the colored stone jewelry, they are now appreciated more for their aesthetic appeal rather than any mystical or magical characteristic attributed to them. Nonetheless, there is still magic with the way they can shimmer in the light and effectively bring about beauty.
