Colon cancer is rather dreadful and the symptoms are not very easily visible until a very later stage. You need to understand what is a colon cancer and the repercussions especially if you want to combat the signs. Understanding colon cancer will help you understand the implications of health and other related issues in them.
Let us first understand the meaning of a colon, it is a vital part of the digestive system and plays a very important role in the absorption of vital nutrients, water and minerals within the body. It also helps in getting rid of major nutrients in the form of stool. Colon is a huge part of the digestive large intestine and is almost 6 feet long. The last 5-6 inches of the large intestine form the rectum and anal canal.
Let us now look at some of the symptoms of Colon Cancer. In the early stages people who are suffering from colon cancer do not exhibit any kind of symptoms at all. This is the reason why most doctors suggest that you must get yourself screened at the beginning of 50.
There are two types of colon cancer symptoms namely: Local and Systemic.
In local colon cancer symptoms they generally tend to affect your daily habits and the colon in itself. Such as your bathroom habits. Your bowel habits may tend to change, this means more or lesser frequency of bowel movements. You may also get constipated at times, or suffer from Diarrhea or intermittently suffer from both. You may also suffer from tarry stools, which mean dark red blood stains in the stool. Stool also becomes unusually thinner and you may also feel like emptying your bowels without anything in them.
Other local stool symptoms are suffering due to feeling of bloating, gas pains frequently and cramps. However, if you happen to experience these kind of symptoms for more than two or three weeks, it is better to consult and doctor and seek medical advice on the same.
Lets look at the systematic colon cancer symptoms: these are symptoms that basically affect your entire body. You may also experience acute weight loss during this period. This weight loss will be quite unintentional and you will also suffer from acute loss of appetite. You may also undergo some feeling of fatigue and vomiting and nausea. For women it will be anemia and towards the end of the week you will contract jaundice, leading to yellowish color skin as well as yellow colors of the whites of the eyes.
If you happen to experience all these symptoms for a long period of time, say two weeks or more or even for one week. It is time you consult a physician.
In case you begin to notice colon cancer symptoms you must immediately contact a doctor and fix an appointment. With the help of some medical history and collection of blood and stool samples he will be able to perform certain follow up tests for you.
Do not hesitate to go for a colon cancer screening since this will be the right opportunity to detect if you have the deadly disease or not. It may hurt a bit but do not worry about that.
