Lunch Makeovers with Fruits and Vegetables
Modern lunches are getting makeovers. A healthy lunch should not be filled with artificial sweetness ad empty calories. Today's health-conscious diner wants fresh alternatives for themselves and their families. Keep in mind that children pick up their eating habits and preferences in childhood. If parents present kids with healthy choices, they are more likely to choose better as adults.
Even drinks for lunches have changed in modern lunch boxes. Cola drinks and sugary liquids are 'out' in a healthy lunch. Pure water with a splash of fresh peach, cranberry, or grape juice is 'in' with today's lunch crowd.
Trendy wraps and tortilla shells have replaced heavy breads. In fact, many people are even losing the wraps. They are just concentrating on the wonderful goodness of vegetable fillings that complete today's sandwich alternatives. Lean chicken, dark greens, and vegetable slices work fine on their own. Who needs a sandwich-style lunch when you can have a terrific salad with all its tasty goodness!
A salad created from a combination of vegetables will make a delicious lunch. Choose vegetables of different colors and textures and have a lunch that looks as great as its taste. Of course, vegetables can be cut for dipping – although vegetables can stand on their own. For anyone who prefers to dip their vegetables, there are all kinds of gourmet dips using fresh ingredients. Hummus makes a healthy dip.
Of course, every lunch should have dessert – but not a calorie-laden cake. Naturally, fruit is a fresh choice for dessert. You can even expand your horizons outside of the usual banana or orange – although both fruits are excellent choices. Yet you need to add variety to lunches or they will lose their appeal. An uneaten lunch has no health benefits.
Interesting fruit mixtures can add another level of taste and interest to one's lunch. A combination of kiwi, mango, and papaya brings that tropical feeling to you – even if you are stuck in an office in a snow storm. Gourmet fruit salads can add tang and taste to any boring lunch. Make over your lunch! Go for a healthier "you!"
