Coffee Being Used As Fuel?

Coffee Being Used As Fuel?

By:

How many pots of coffee are brewed in a single household each day? I know in mine, we usually make anywhere from three to five twelve cup pots a day. My household is larger than most, so we naturally go through more coffee. That is a lot of coffee grounds that we throw away each day. Studies show that this could be a means to make more bio friendly fuel for our vehicles.

Coffee grinds contain fifteen percent oil. This oil is comparable to oils found in soybeans and other products that are used to make bio diesel fuels. The used grounds are dried out and the oil is then removed. Because of its high antioxidant content coffee oil is relatively more stable than other oils that are currently used for fuel sources. This bio diesel fuel, made from coffee grounds, turns out to be more stable than traditional fuels that we use in vehicles. It also stays stable a lot longer than traditional fuels. It also emits less carbon dioxide than gasoline does. Coffee oil is all around hands down the better option for a bio friendly fuel supplement. Its antioxidants make it burn cleaner and are thus more efficient than regular fuel supplies.

Do not get too excited over this prospect. Even though using coffee grounds is efficient, it is not very practical right now. When coffee shops brew their coffees there is not much leftover. It would take fifty gallons of used coffee grounds just to equal one gallon of coffee oil. So while this is efficient, it is not practical. I do not foresee coffee oil becoming a regular fuel source for vehicles. I do foresee coffee oil being added to the bio diesel fuel mixtures that are being used in vehicles today. Even if coffee oil does not become a sole source of fuel, using the oils from coffee grinds is more beneficial to our environment. It is also less wasteful because by the time you are all done, there is virtually nothing left.

Today's prices on gasoline are on the rise. Using bio diesel fuel would be cheaper on every one. Researchers say that because very little energy is used to make this bio fuel, the cost on in would be roughly around a $1 per gallon. Imagine only paying $1 for a gallon of fuel in your car. Amazing! I know that this would be a nice break for my family and for many others. With as much coffee grounds go to waste in this country alone, studies show that almost 348 billion gallons of oil could be produced. This oil could then be used to make bio diesel fuel which is cleaner and more efficient than the gasoline that we use. We would not only be ridding ourselves of waste product, but also keeping our air and atmosphere cleaner, thus promoting better health for the overall public.

So not only do we get a fantastic drink that gives us energy, but we also get a more efficient fuel source, all from the same little plant: the coffee bush.
