Coenzyme Q10- A Cardio Friendly Nutrient

By:

Coenzyme Q10 is a friend of your heart. Your heart is a busy body which is constantly working and pumping blood. It never gets time off as the functioning of the body is dependent on the heart pumping enough blood to all parts of it. Q10 is essential for the appropriate production of energy at an optimal rate in your body and especially for your heart. If you lack q10, then you will produce free radicals instead. Also the lack of q10 in your heart will weaken it and speed up the ageing process.

Coenzyme Q10 also functions as an anti oxidant for cell membranes. This means that it acts as a protective agent to the complete circulatory system of your body having a considerable hand in lowering blood pressure. It also acts within the anti oxidant team along with fellow team mates Vitamins C and E to provide additional protection against cardiovascular diseases.

Drugs containing statin interfere with production of coenzyme q10. This has been evident from research conducted on patients taking statin drugs who have a considerably lower level of q10. statins are known to lower levels of q10 by almost 25 %. Since q10 is responsible for the production of energy within the cells, lower levels of energy due to statin consumption results in fatigue, inability to exercise and muscle aches and pains. This interference with energy production within cells causes an increase in the body's secretion of lactic acid which further adds to the muscle aches.

It is not a norm for doctors to prescribe use of q10 with statin taking patients because it can not be proven that all statin related muscle aches is due to lack of q10. statins cause muscle pain in multiple ways and hence the above theory will never be proven. It is to be kept in mind that Q10 is a cardio friendly nutrient which keeps your heart happy and you more energized.
