Coal is a rich sedimentary rock and fossil fuel that is chiefly considered as a source of energy used in various industrial uses such as smelting and alloy production. At present it is used as a solid form of fuel in order to produce electricity and heat through combustion. It is widely used in both residential and commercial projects.
Some people seldom confuse coal with charcoal, which is principally of wooden origin. In the earlier times coal was used for mere household works like heating commodities but with the rise of industrial revolution, mining of coal started on a large-scale. Coal then became a vital product that produces electric power as well as provides primary energy for industries as well as transportation during the 18th century to the 1950s.
Similar to the oil, coal took millions of years to be formed as the source of energy and it is formed from matters of plants and animals, but unlike oil, coal is not a liquid substance, it is a solid form, and therefore, miners are required to go deep inside the earth to recover it. Many coal seams are located near to the surface and therefore, make the extraction of this resource easier. Apart from coal, there are also other sources of energy which include firewood, wood charcoal, pine coal etc.
Coal industry is one of the fast growing industries in the country and is one of the most profitable industries. Mining of coal at times can be a very dangerous activity, particularly, when it involves mining underground. Gases produced underground can be very toxic or highly inflammable, that can cause explosions killing the miners. However, coal miners are fortunate enough to have developed and advanced technology that has facilitated the companies to successfully protect their workers from the hazards of
coal mining
The other source of energy apart from coal like firewood is also used extensively in various industries to generate different kinds of fuels, chemicals etc. It is any wood like material that is collected and dried up to be used as fuel. It is also known as the most combustible fuel. While the pine wood coal is chiefly black in colour and it is another source of fuel. It is applied in various industries like chemical, petro chemical, and other commercial industries.
