Clothes That Have Made A Difference

There have been many revolutionary garments over the years. Take the corset for instance. Structured with whale bone to pinch the waist into unnatural proportions and laced up the back or front, these 'scaffolding' types of underwear left the occupant unable to breathe but with an enviably skinny waistline. They were designed because the perfect womanly shape was seen to have a tiny waist and if you weren't blessed with one, this was the best way to get one - unhealthy but fashionable.

Then we have the good old jeans. The invention of denim that was fashioned into jeans was an absolute money spinner. There is no other fabric that lasts so well, that looks better with age and that can be dressed up, dressed down, worked in, played in, made to look sexy or made to be practical. Since their invention, jeans have gone through various stages of change to be fashionable but it's a dead cert that this revolutionary garment will never be out of style.

We should also consider wetsuits as pretty revolutionary when it comes to clothing. Ok, they may not be the type of thing you'd want to go clubbing in, or shopping in, but they are, in their own right, quite amazing bits of kit.

Water sports have been there from the year dot but it takes a strong, hardy man to go in waters, particularly those off the UK coast, in anything other than the balmiest of summers, with just his Speedo's on!

Surfing has been a sport all around the world for hundreds of years. Diving has become much more popular and accessible over recent years with the introduction of more efficient breathing apparatus. However, the human body very quickly loses heat in water. The further you dive the colder it will be. Even for those on the surface, they will quickly lose heat.

So, there are two choices. Either spend less time doing your favourite sport and be restricted to only the hottest days of the year or invest in a wetsuit.
People are quick to realise that life is so short and to get the most from it, you cannot restrict all your entertainment to the summer months, or weeks in the case of the UK. Besides, just because the sun may not be at its hottest, it doesn't necessarily detract from the fun to be had. Some of the wildest weather makes for the best surfing and of course, the lower the air temperature, the harder you will find it to last very long.

Unless, of course, you have a wetsuit. In various thicknesses, wetsuits are an amazing protection when you are in the water. The material and composition have changed slightly over the years until we reach the point we are at now when the very best result can be gained and you are free to spend hours carrying out your favourite sport of surfing or diving.

Wetsuits work by providing a barrier against your skin. A certain amount of water will be allowed through which will then be warmed by the body to body temperature. This water is trapped against the skin and wetsuits stop this warm water escaping or being replaced with cold water. This is one method of keeping a water sports enthusiast warm during their time in the water and for them, wetsuits have revolutionised their sport.
