Designing with Linens

If you like detail, craft, and design then dollhouse design is a great opportunity to grow your talents. For instance the amount of detail that is available to you is mesmerizing. A great example is using linens to coordinate your dollhouse design, and make things pop. The bedroom is an excellent demonstration of detail and the breadth of items that you can create. Just think of all the fabrics that you use in your own bedroom - Sheets, curtains, blankets, etc. Moving on to the dinning room there is the dinning table cloth and if you are really fancy you can have coordinating napkins. From there we move to the bathroom where you can create your own shower curtains, toilet seat covers, and more. There is just an unending amount of personal style that you can put into your dollhouse.

Designing the Outside of Your Dollhouse Kit

When you have completed your dollhouse you will want people to admire the outside of your dollhouse just as much as they do the inside. The Paint of the dollhouse along with the look of the shingles is the first thing that you notice with your exterior. To have a quality paint job on your house apply at least three coats of recommended paint. Make sure that you draw lines prior to applying shingles to preserve a straight look, most instruction booklets will provide the required measurements. In addition to the paint and shingles a couple of accessories like a barbeque or bird house will add to the attractiveness. You can even have some small flower pots to place in the window seals. Last but not least is the lighting of the exterior. Lights on exterior are commonly found on the porch, but you can place them pretty much wherever you would like to.

Look Down: The Floor in your Kit

There is one design item that is looked over more than anything else is flooring. Flooring is often overlooked because it is the base, but that only means that it is really the foundation for your furniture and design choices. Not only that, it adds a very distinct touch that will take your dollhouse and move it to the next level. There are several types of flooring that you might want to consider: Carpet, linoleum, tile, stone, and/or hard wood. Carpet is a really fun choice, because it makes the kit seem like a miniature version of your house. A quick fix to bathroom or kitchen rooms is linoleum and tile. The hardest type of flooring to add is a stone or hard wood option, but in the end these are the best from a designing standpoint.
