Clear Braces - Teeth Alignment Is No Longer Just For Teenagers

By:

For teeth alignment the best time of all to undergo treatment is during your teenage years. At least, this always used to be the case. Today however that's assumption is changing with the introduction of clear braces.

In case you haven't come across these before clear braces are used in modern teeth alignment treatments, and achieve the same result as traditional metal or wire races, but being clear they're virtually invisible. The idea of invisible braces is not only very appealing to almost everyone who is considering teeth alignment, but it is also the reason why the assumption that braces are only for teenagers is being brought into question.

Until recently many professional businessmen and women would not consider the idea of teeth alignment, even if they really could do with it. Having an underbite or an overbite, crooked or twisted teeth, overlapping teeth or large gaps can all add up to a smile that you're not terribly proud of, and become consciously aware of every time to smile or talk. This isn't good, but the alternative has been even less appealing for many people, wearing metal wire braces for sometimes two or three years.

However, with the introduction of clear braces, or invisible braces as they're often being called now, everyone and anyone can benefit from having a teeth alignment treatment carried out without feeling self conscious about wearing very obvious braces. In fact in most everyday situation the people you meet won't even be aware of the fact that you are wearing braces. They feel much more comfortable than metal braces, being made of a silicon based gel material that is soft to the touch, and completely smooth.

Many people in the past found that metal braces could sometimes dig into the gums, and wires could stick out just enough to irritate the gums and soft parts of the mouth causing ulcers and sores. This certainly wasn't appealing, but with clear braces there's no discomfort and no risk of rubbing or of ulcers. The good news doesn't even end there, because whilst metal braces usually complete a teeth alignment treatment in around three years, invisible braces can usually complete the treatment within 18 months, and sometimes in under a year.

Clearly though with something this appealing and this effective there's a catch, and in fact there are two which you'll need to be aware of before making up your mind about whether to go for teeth alignment, and if so, whether to go for traditional metal braces or the new clear braces. The first thing to consider is how good your self control and willpower is. If you were on a diet and hungry and someone stuck a Mars bar in front of you, could you resist, or do you give in to temptation easily?

The thing is that clear braces simply slip over your teeth, and so unlike with metal braces they can be easily removed at any time. This is good from the point of view of oral hygiene since you can clean your teeth much more effectively than if you were wearing wire braces, but it does mean that some people will be a little too tempted to take the braces out and forget about them for a while. If you don't keep them in for at least 23 hours a day then they just won't work.

The second catch is that throughout the entire treatment you will need to visit your dentist every two weeks to have a new pair of clear braces fitted, However, if you feel that this isn't such a bad catch, and that you have sufficient willpower and determination to leave the braces in for the recommended period of time each day, then perhaps clear braces do offer you the teeth alignment alternative which could help you achieve a more beautiful smile.
