Cleaning Your Tile And Grout

By:

If you have tile in your home, then you know that once it's soiled, it can ruin the look of any area. Keep the flooring of your shower stall looking fresh by cleaning the tile and grout. A clean cloth and warm water work best for cleaning your tile. Wipe the tile with warm water, removing any light soil. If you have stubborn stains that will not come off with just water, try using a cleaner and rubbing harder. Before using a cleaner, try cleaning it first with warm water. This will help protect the tile's glaze. Applying sealant to tile that does not have a glaze can help with clean up later.

Some people use vinegar as a cleaner for tile. This should not be attempted because it can ruin the surface and in some instances, affect the color of your grout. There are pros and cons to using vinegar to clean tile. There are products available that specifically clean tile and grout, but you should carefully follow the directions and use only as instructed. Never use more than instructed in the directions, and make sure it won't ruin tile before using. Be careful how you clean your tile, since all tiles aren't made of identical materials.

If you have to scrub your tile to get rid of dirt and grime, try using a non-abrasive cleaner. This is safe for cleaning tile, and will prevent damage. Use a soft brush to clean your grout. Some folks use a toothbrush that has soft bristles to do this. It assists in getting into the small cracks between each tile. Once your tile and grout is clean, make sure any remaining dirt is washed away by careful rinsing. Once you've rinsed the area, dry with a soft, dry cloth to buff it out. After it dries, let it sit for awhile to make certain the tile and grout are thoroughly dry. In certain areas you may have to use additional sealant. An important step in completing the job is to seal between the tile. Apply sealant carefully, smoothing it out and cleaning any overflow of sealant. Before using the tiled area, make sure the sealant is dry. Afterwards, your tile will look as new as the day you installed it.
