If your basement gets flooded, it can be caused by heavy rain or by your appliances overflowing. It can damage the floors, carpets, and your things, damage the stairs, or anything in your basement. Mold can grow on the wood and inside the walls or in them. It can eat the drywall or the wallpaper. The mold causes toxin in the basement, and it can go up the stairs into your house, or it can get in the vents and the air will pull it through the house, which will affect you. These toxins can do so many things and hurt the people you love.

It can make you see things you normally would not see. It can cause problems, rashes, illness, hives, breathing problems, and it can cause cancers. The mold can eat the carpet up, make it fall apart, and change the color of any wood by turning it white or black. When it floods, it is hard to remove the water out of the basement, and you will have to pump it out by an electric hose, and then you will have to dry everything down there and dry out the basement. You will need to put a fan down there to help get it dried. You don't want the water to set because the damage will get worse, and mold will grow and spread.

You will need to open up the windows to get some air flowing through your basement. This way, it will get dryer faster. But you must get everything out of there fast and put it outside and wash what ever you can. If you have important papers, spread them out. They will dry and hopefully they won't be ruined. Do the same with pictures. You can take a dryer and dry them up. If you plan to set them outside, make sure it is warm outside because nothing will dry if it is cold.

Use a mop to get the rest of the water up. You can also use dry towels or anything that is dry to clean up the water. Make sure you get in the small areas because if you mess with them, mold will grow in those areas. It is very important that the basement gets cleaned and dries because you don't want your house to become effected by mold or water damage. You have to keep an eye on your appliances and when or if there is going to be a flood coming. This way you can protect you home from any of these things from happening.
