Cleaning Spots, Spills And Stains As They Are Made

By:

Keeping up with housework when you have kids can be a big challenge as any homemaker knows. You start in one room on Monday and by the time you get the the last room to clean, it is time to start all over again. Housework requires the skills you learn along the way and a little organization to keep any home running smoothly. Some days go smoother than others, but when you are cleaning up after children, there are always little surprises.

Some parents will allow their children to eat and drink anywhere they like in the home, but this can be a very bad habit to ever get started. Once they are given free reign to carry their snacks and juice boxes anywhere they want to as a toddler, you will likely be picking up after them until they leave home. Have one or two designated areas to eat and drink, not just for the toddlers, but for everyone. At least then you will know where the food and drink spills will be. Teach your kids at an early age to throw away their own trash and put away their own things. If you do not do it now you will regret it severely later.

Even when you do your best to keep food and drinks confined to specific areas of the home, there are going to be times when rules are broken and accidents happen. It might not even be the kids that cause them always. You can have dinner guests that spill red wine all over your new carpet or upholstered furniture. You can walk through the house with your coffee and trip over the dog and make your own mess. Pets can make their fair share of messes to be cleaned up too. It happens. Often times you might be tempted to leave it until later because you will have to break out the scrub brush, cleaner, and a towel to get it up. If you are smart you might invest in one of the new spot cleaning machines. They are great especially when you have pets and kids.

If you take just a couple of minutes to clean up spills and stains that are made on the floor, carpet, rugs, or furniture, your home will keep a cleaner look and you will run less risk of the stain setting in and becoming permanent. Always use a cleaner that is appropriate for the material you need to clean. Bleach is great for some things, but not nearly everything. Keep a good multi purpose cleaner that works well on several surfaces, but for carpets always use a spot cleaner that is recommended for it and furniture upholstery. You will feel a lot better if you clean up spots and spills now rather than having them come back to haunt you later.
