Cleaning Pet Urine The Right Way

By:

Most pets, specifically cats and dogs usually have little accidents inside the house targeting your carpets and other home furniture. If these accidents happen more frequently, it becomes a burden to pet owners. Although removing pet urine odors and stains are quite easy when their urines are still fresh, removing old stains and smell is much more difficult. If you havent cleaned the urine spot thoroughly, chances are your pets will most likely urinate in the same place over and over again. Pet animals have very strong sense of smell, so if theres even a slightest smell that was left in the area, they can still smell it encouraging them to urinate there again.

To treat the spot appropriately, you can use homemade remedies to clean the area. With the right mixture of water and white vinegar, your pet urine odor battle will soon be over. You just have to mix equal parts of water and white vinegar, it is recommended that you use distilled vinegar with five percent acidity level. Before applying the solution most especially on carpets, you must test the solution first just to make sure that it doesnt have discoloration effect in the area where you plan to use it. You can also use enzyme-based products that are widely available in the market. Enzyme cleaners are proved to be very effective in getting rid of urine stains and smells.

You must follow a proper procedure in dealing and cleaning pet urine odors and stains. The first thing that you must do is to blot up fresh urine with absorbent cloth, paper towels or rags, use a hand glove when doing the procedure. Try getting as much urine as you could and make the area as dry as you could. Wash the cloth or rags right away. You can use a cup of vinegar for washing the absorbent cloth or rags that you used. If its impossible for you to wash them immediately, store it outside the house and keep it away from your pet.

After blotting up fresh urine, its now time to apply the homemade solution or enzyme based cleaner into the spot. Since urine has the ability to spread six times deep into the surface, its better to apply on a larger area in the surface so that the solution will penetrate deep down inside. Leave the homemade solution for an hour and the enzyme based cleaner for about 24 hours. To remove excess residue from the solution or the cleaner, use a vacuum or steam cleaner into the area afterwards. If dont have any vacuum or steam cleaner, you can use towels or several absorbent cloth on top of the surface and put something heavy on top. When the towel or cloth gets wet, replace it until the towel doesnt have any more moisture to absorb.
