Cleaning A Men's Necktie

By:

A tie is regarded as a man's fashion accessory and a way to show preferences, therefore to last long it must be cleaned, pressed and cared for. Ties get dirty after use for several times.

These must not be hand washed with water or with washing machines. They shrink with a fading colour and can look rumpled. The best way to keep your tie looking new is to send it to the dry cleaners. There are two washing ways that work for self necktie, one is wet cleaning where the ties are cleaned using soft brushes and a small amount of detergent, using a dry towel to clean the form and the wet towels to scrub. Dry cleaning is using soft brushes with a little gasoline and the brushing should follow the pattern on the tie, in satin evaporated oil is a good choice for stain removal.

Removing Stains from Neckties
Necktie stains are commonly caused by spills from soups and beverages. Silk ties are made of delicate fabric and therefore can not be washed the same way as the rest of the washing. Never wash it with water, or any tie in fact, as it is hard to get it back to its original form. You can put it in pure unscented, talcum powder on the new stain and leave it overnight. The powder absorbs the large part of the stain; you can use a soft fabric to brush the rest away.

These stains can dry after sometime and talcum powder can no longer remove them. Commercial stain removers are the best option with a dry stain because they are specially formulated to safely and gently clean delicate material such as silk tie.

Ironing a necktie
For a refreshing necktie, before pressing, put rolled paper rods into both inner side edges to avoid irremovable creases from the edges. Cover the neckties with a towel and set the appropriate temperature based on the material and iron from the centre to around. Faster pressing is recommended for silk ties as the fabric too delicate.

For short term storage, loosely roll the neckties and put them in the wardrobe. For long term safe keeping, the clean neckties are put into a plastic bag and hung in the change room. Neckties can also be stored in a box; for silk good ventilation is highly recommended.

Neckties are no doubt the most essential part of a man's wardrobe, so proper care is highly recommended and required. Proper storage is also a good way to ensure a tie stays new and lasts for longer. Neckties can make or break the outfit so the right choice of colour, make style and length is important as well as the occasion. When choosing a necktie it is crucial to try to match the shade with the belt, socks. For special occasions like dinners and weddings or funerals one has to try to look for ties with a toned down shade rather than opting for bright shades. But evidently the most important way to dressing a tie is learning how to choose a tie and why.

Storage of a necktie
The way a necktie is kept is easily visible by looking at the way it is stored. These are delicate clothing and proper care can prolong their lifespan. The best way to ensure that your ties are not worn and wrinkled after a short period of use is to store them separately from the rest of the clothes. A box can be a good way of preserving them. For short term storage you can hang your tie loosely in the wardrobe where as for long term storage the best way is to put cleaned neckties into a plastic bag ant hang them in the changing room. If storing in a box chose option then good ventilation is essential for the silks. By hanging or rolling the tie you can also ensure longevity in its life span, although a smooth surface is a vital part in its safe keeping. Remember, it is important to have various neckties and to allow refreshment and breathing between uses. A worn out tie is the last thing any man wants to wear
