Clean Indoor Air-5 Pollutants To Remove To Insure Your Indoor Air Is Clean

By:

Clean indoor air has been proven to be one of the most significant factors in staying healthy. So what are the pollutants that cause the United States Environmental Protection Agency to say," Indoor air can be two to twenty times more hazardous than outdoor air."? Here are the top 5 indoor pollutants that need to be removed to insure clean indoor air.

Household Dust-that's no surprise right? It's probably the biggest reason we continue to clean our houses. And where does it all come from? It originates from tiny pieces of fabrics from clothes and furniture, dust and dirt from outside is often brought in with opening of windows and doors or on shoes and sent airborne with daily activities; it can even contain tiny pieces of metal that result from scraping hinges when opening and closing doors.

Dust Mites-These prolific little sub-micron size creatures make their home in your bed and thrive on dead skin-nice right? It is the protein in their droppings to which many people are so allergic. Encasing your bedding in an air tight covers, and frequent washing of linens in temperature well above 160 degrees Fahrenheit will cut down on their numbers, but normal daily activities can still send them airborne causing allergy and asthma flare ups.

Plant Spores-Mold and mildew spores are nature's way of decomposing and renewing, although if you have mold and mildew problems it's not always easy to see them in this positive light. They are only able to grow where there is moisture, and so their favorite places are-you guessed it-the bathroom, kitchen, and basement. These spores can cause hay fever symptoms if inhaled and asthma and allergy symptoms if they reach the lungs.

Dander-If you've got a warm-blooded pet as part of the family-a dog, cat, bird, bunny, ferret, guinea pig or pet mice-you've got dander. It is constantly being produced as your pet sheds dead skin to make way for new skin. It is too tiny to be seen, but if you're allergic you know it's there. Once again, it is the protein contained in the dander that is most often the cause for allergic reactions. And unfortunately it can stick to walls, clothing, and furniture for years just waiting to be sent airborne with normal movement throughout your home. It has even been found in homes of people who don't own animals but who have inherited their home from someone who did.

Chemicals-What chemicals you're probably thinking. So many of the products that we use in our modern world are chemically based, and in many cases they have allowed for many more conveniences, but have come at a high price to our health. Many chemicals in carpet, stay-press fabrics, pressed wood furniture such as kitchen and bathroom cabinets, chemicals used in the construction of mobile homes, and even chemicals used in household cleaning products contain volatile organic chemicals (such as formaldehyde) that evaporate into the air easily. These chemical fumes often cause watery, burning, or itching eyes, nose, throat, and can cause headaches dizziness, and a feeling of light-headedness. And if you suffer from Chemical Sensitivity you know first hand how disrupting these chemicals can be to your life.

As we have insulated our homes from the heat and cold, we have also trapped these pollutants in our home and simply re-circulate them with the heat in the winter and the air conditioning in the summer. So now that we know what the problems are what is to be done about it? How can we protect ourselves and our good health?
