Physical Properties Of Minerals:

  • Color: Many minerals are recognized by their color. The color of the specific minerals is usually determined by the presence as well as intensity of certain elements them. The scale suggested that while Diamond is the hardest among all the minerals discovered till date, Talc is the softest one.
  • Luster: It is the ability of the mineral to reflect the light falling on it. The more the light reflects the lustrous the mineral is.
  • Cleavage: It is the way a minerals splits: whether horizontally into thin sheets or nearly at right angles in varied directions. To check this, a mineral is gently hammered on, and it has no cleavage, it will break irregularly.

Some Of The Classes Of Minerals Are:

  • Carbonate Class: These are the minerals consisting of anions. Carbonate is majorly deposited in marine around shells of dead plank tonic and is settled on sea floor. This class mainly comprises of nitrate and borate minerals.
  • Sulfate Class: These minerals contain high quantity of sulfate anion. They are naturally found at the places where high-saline water gradually evaporates. This, in turn, allows the formation of halides and sulfate. The most common sulfates are barite and gypsum.
  • Halide Class: These are the minerals that form natural salt. The minerals that come under this class are as follows: fluoride, chloride, bromide and iodide.
