Civilization V

I’m not a big fan of the strategy games, either real time or the turn based games. And I haven’t played a lot of games from this kind. Civilisation V was the first game from the Sid Meier's Civilization sequence. So I didn’t know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised.

All of the Civilisation parts have been turn based which allows the player to think over his decisions before executing them. Some might assume this is an old gameplay, and most of the newly released games are real-time. When you are playing a real-time game you have to not just make the right strategy decisions but also to execute them in the fastest way possible. Without this stressful element of the game the player is able to take more time to think and calculate his decisions. And he also has the opportunity to enjoy the scenery of the game.

Even though the graphics are not the best in the field you will still enjoy the details in Civilisation V. The details in the cities, the units and even the water look great. There are variable unit animations which you might find interesting to watch. You may find yourself constantly zooming in and out to admire those animations.

Although you can chose from a lot of different game types there is no campaign involved. You will have to setup your own game where you can select from a lot of different options. The game is really unproblematic for starters as it has a great introduction to all of its modules.

One of the great parts of Civilization V is the interaction between the player and the AI. All the world leaders have full voice acting and character animations. Which proved to be very addicting in the longer games. I often find it hard to stop playing and quit the game.

The biggest setback I fond about the game (this may actually be a problem from my computer) is that when you add more opponents, by more I mean 14+, in the later stages of the game they need quite a long time to react. It was taking more than 3 minutes per turn. There are a lot of things that the AI should consider. As I said this might be because of my PC which isn’t fast at all. Players with better PCs may not find it much of an issue but this will be a problem for some.

As some players are asking why there isn’t a campaign in the game, after a while of playing they will understand that this way you will experience your own story. Each game you play will be different and you will be changing your strategy all the time. You can find some strategy flashgames online. You can play free flash games at ArnesGames.Net .
