If you are a smoker who have many years of smoking cigarettes under your belt, just how much information has passed through your finger tips over the years about the risk of smoking? The amount of information that is out there being circulated is immense, but yet the cigarette makers are rolling in the billions each year. Have smokers not realized that in August of 2006 the district court found the tobacco industry representatives guilty of misleading the public about the true addition and health related issues concerning smoking cigarettes? If you still smoke cigarettes, you are guilty of helping these companies stay in business to harm even more people.

The representatives were found guilty of holding research that showed cigarettes were more than just bad for your health. they were as additive as any street drug known to mankind. But did any of this change the numbers of the millions of people out there that smoked cigarettes? The answer is no, not when the number of smokers continue to go up and down with the years, but still increases in overall number of smokers. This is not the only major event that has taken place in the tobacco industries history that shocked smokers.

If you have been smoking cigarettes for 30 years or more, there is one other issue that the industries have faced. That would be the amount of money that was awarded to the complainants that filed a law suit of a small amount, just 280 billion dollars was awarded is all. If this was not enough to let smokers know what they are inhaling into their lungs, then there might be one other thing.

The Justice Department on Monday, July of 2005, asked the Supreme Court for the legal authority once again to seek $280 billion in damages from the tobacco industry. The Justice Department maintains that the tobacco companies have engaged in a pattern of fraud and deceit in marketing cigarettes and have been running what amounts to a criminal enterprise. This is a wake up call for all smokers out there that continue to smoke cigarettes. If these tobacco companies can be proven guilty off misleading the public about smoking, then just what else is being hidden from the public about cigarettes and the health issues that are created by them? So, if you are still wanting to smoke after you know all of this information about tobacco, then you might say that they are not only bad for your health, but must be highly addictive if a company will go to such lengths to market them to people knowing what cigarettes do.
