Choosing Your Women Doctor

Choosing a Gynecologist or "women doctor" as often reffered to should be a well thought over process. The chosen doctor should be more than just a doctor to you, he/she must have all the attributes to become your best friend.

Very few women take the time to do a proper search for the 1 doctor who will invade their privacy, deliver their children and often spent hours listening to the stories not even told to their partners. A high percentage of women often run to their nearest Gynecologist when they fall pregnant, and often end up regretting this impulse action.

When to choose your Gynecologist?

The earlier the better, and this should accually be the job for the mother. If you take your daugter to a Gynecologist from age of 13 every year, and let her make a decision on whether she feels the connection with the doctor or not, by the time she reach 18 she should feel comfortable with her preffered choise.

Why do you need to be very careful when choosing your "women doctor"?


You need to feel relaxed when visiting your doctor, and comfortable at being naked before him/her. This sounds strange, but very few women are comfortable with their bodies, and therefor being naked infront of a stranger makes it even worst! Seeing your "women doctor" as a friend makes this easier, but keep friendship out of it, as this will in turn put more pressure on you again. Keep your relationship casual, but proffesional.

How to choose your Obs & Gynae?

As I've mentioned, this process should be started by you mother at age 13, but if you've skipped this - DO NOT PANIC!

First of all, distance should of course play a role when selecting your doctor. Too far away from your house can cause some difficulties when you are pregnant, not only when deliverytime approach, but also when you are not comfortable driving any more.

Secondly, Take your partner with you when you go Gynecologist hunting, and remember he will be just as, or even more tense than you sitting infront of a stranger discussing YOU. Comfort him by holding his hand and letting him ask some questions - how stupid they might be!

In many countries it's illegal for doctors to advertise, and this makes it even more difficult for someone to find a reliable Gynecologist or "women doctor". Wouldn't it be nice if classified sites listed "doctors in you area", and have them advertising themselves? "Hi, my name is dr. So-on So-forth and I'm a Gynecologist. I specialize in delivering babies and add the human touch to your private moments" Just kidding, but you'd have to admit it would be nice and the perfect place to start!
