Choosing Your Printing Company

By: charen smith

The final step of any kind of in-print advertising is obvious: you print them.

This is the culmination of all the work you put into it. All the research beforehand, all the planning to figure out the best ways to distribute your advertising, all the artistic planning to make an ad look the best it can, and all the writing so you know your ads send just the message you want them to.

There is a lot of time, money, and effort that went into your advertisement. Do you really want to take the chance that the finished ad isn't what you were hoping for all because you didn't do the needed research to find the best printing company for you that you could?

So what exactly does a person look for in a printing company? If you don't know much about the printing process than you aren't likely to know what is important and what you can do to get the best deals possible.

You need to know exactly how many copies you're going to need. Certain printing methods are specifically designed to print large orders at a lower cost to you, while others are meant for small orders. How fast you need the copies is also going to be a factor to consider. Certain methods of printing are faster while others take a lot longer to get you your ads.

Another thing to consider is the wealth of information the printing company can give you. The more haphazardly you go about choosing your printer the less likely it will be that you'll be able to find a company able to provide you with all of the information you'll likely need to get the best job.

Do you know about what kinds of inks will work best for you, or what kinds of papers will produce the look you were hoping for? If you don't know the details than how exactly are you supposed to ask about them?

You need a printing company that can tell everything you need to know and work with you to produce the best results so that everyone involved is happy with the outcome.

Something else to note is exactly what a printing company specializes in. Some companies might have more of a focus on brochures or catalogs rather than printing anything and everything they can. If you have a large brochure job, but you hope in the future to print postcards or flyers, you might instead go for a more diverse company so you'll be able to use them for your next job.

And, as always, prices will be a factor to consider as well. That doesn't mean that higher prices always equate a company you shouldn't use. Perhaps they can provide you with a better working relationship and end up giving you a better job for your money.

Given how important printing is to advertising, you should make sure that the company you're using is the best fit for you.
