Choosing Your Paper Shredding Service

By:

All paper shredding companies are not created equal, and so it is up to your company to find the best one for fulfilling your needs. With today's privacy laws, for any company of a certain size it is almost a necessity to have a third party shredding service, and as such, it becomes very important that you know what to look for in order to find the best one possible. Even with the shift towards keeping most records on the computer, there are still mountains of paperwork that emerge from most companies, and they need a third party in order to ensure that all that paper is destroyed properly. For both legal and business considerations, it simply isn't worth risking doing a poor job of shredding with low quality office shredders, and instead, you have to find the best professional in your area to complete this task for you.

The first two things that you need to consider are the amount of time it will take these companies to shred your required amount of paper, and how much it will cost to have them do so. Those figures often are feeding off each other, and both usually have to do with the type of equipment they have. Shredders capable of large volumes of paper will work quicker, but might charge slightly more for that time, so often the cost can work out to the same amount regardless of how long it takes them. Be sure to give the company a rough idea of how much shredding you need done to get an accurate time and cost quote.

The next thing you need to look for is a company that specializes in total destruction. They need to ensure the documents are completely destroyed, because remember, it is legal to go through anyone's garbage. A lot of corporate espionage has been carried out by reconstructing poorly shredded documents, so the level of thoroughness in their destruction should figure into your decision as well.

The last thing that you need to worry about is your confidentiality agreement with the paper shredders. You need one of two things in this regard. You can either use a company that has a very strong confidentiality agreement as part of their regular terms of service which become active when you sign a contract, or you need to find a company that is happy to sign any confidentiality agreement that your lawyers might draw up for them.
