Choosing Your Hotel In Moab Utah

By:

Moab, Utah has become one of the hottest destinations for hardcore as well as casual outdoor activities enthusiasts in the entire country over the last few years; and no wonder! This hiking, cycling, river rafting and off-road Mecca boasts virtually limitless opportunities for adventure with its year-round temperate climate, unparalleled red rock playgrounds and easy access to two of the most breathtaking National Parks in all of America.

Just 25 years ago, this town in the southeast part of the state was little more than a one-stoplight blip on the radar screen of the American West whose economy depended mainly on mining. Once it was "discovered" by a new generation of mountain bikers and off-road "Jeepers," it grew by leaps and bounds in an amazingly short period of time.

Today, downtown is lined with scores of professional outfitters who lead tourists on exciting excursions or provide equipment for those who like to go it solo. It rocks in the evenings too: there are plenty of great restaurants, shopping venues and bars for those who enjoy a hopping night-life scene. Somehow through all this growth, Moab has managed to retain its small-town, old-West feel without becoming too commercialized: Moab is nothing less than an American phenomenon.

After a fun day in the great outdoors, you need a restful place to lay your head...if you plan on visiting soon, here are some tips for choosing your hotel in Moab.

--Go for convenience: There are plenty of small bed and breakfast-type places out in the boondocks, but (especially if this is your first visit) you'll want to select a place right in the downtown area. You'll be tired after a day spent in the sun, and you won't want to drive dozens of miles to freshen up before returning to town for dinner. Moab is quite isolated from the rest of the world, so it just makes sense to stay in town. Everything you are looking for from outfitters to activities to a choice in restaurants will be right outside your door.

--All the right amenities: If biking is on your agenda as it is for most visitors, choose a hotel in Moab that offers secure bicycle storage. Most places to stay will not allow you to keep your bike in your room, so storage is a must.

--Nice and clean, but not over the top: You'll be spending most of your time outdoors, of course, but when you're ready to call it a day you want your room to be fresh and clean and outfitted with sturdy furniture in a homey and friendly environment. No need for the Ritz: this is Moab!

Unlike 25 years ago, there are plenty of places to call home during your visit to Moab; but some hotels are definitely better than others: so take the time to choose the perfect one.
