Choosing The Right Toys For Your Dog

By:

Dogs make very nice pets. As long as you are able to train them well, they can be very good house companions. You can play fetch with them, run around, and do a lot of other things. You can train them to perform tricks; you can teach them how to follow simple orders. However, when they begin to teethe, dogs become very difficult to live with. Just like babies who have teeth on the verge of erupting, the gum pads become very itchy, they are often irritated and so babies usually need teethers to remove some of the discomfort.

Dogs are like that as well. When they are teething, their gum pads start to itch and they constantly need something to bite on, hence the uncontrollable gnawing of your shoes, furniture, and just about anything worth biting!

Dog toys take away the need for your furniture to face inevitable destruction. With the wide range of toys available in the market, pet owners can go crazy and choose whichever ones they like. These toys are usually made of rubber or plastic and can be classified into groups by their specific function. There are fetch toys, chew toys, and even toys that improve dental hygiene. Whatever you decide to choose, these toys are for your dogs to use in any way that they please, and usually, to devour them when they can.

Distraction Toys are those toys that have sweets and morsels of food in them. Unlike chew toys these give the real sensation of food and dogs will stay happy for a long time, whilst munching on these.

Active Toys train dogs to perform. These make them physically and mentally fit. They come in different colours so that dogs can easily see them. Active toys take a dogs mind away from their itchy gum's. They will want to keep on playing and fetching, so there will be less chewing of important items. The best Active toys are Frisbees and balls. You can also get your dogs the toys that make noises, because these kinds of toys make dogs go crazy!

Comfort Toys help your dogs to rest better. These are usually stuffed toys that can be good companions for sleeping. It is believed that a well-rested dog is a happy dog, and with the perfect comfort toys around, your doggie will definitely be more satisfied.

Regardless of what kind of toy you get for your dog, always remember that not all toys are suitable for all breeds. A small toy cannot be given to small dogs as they could accidentally swallow them, also a bigger toy cannot be given to smaller dogs because it might be too heavy for them to carry and therefore not functional. Ensure you pick the right sized toy, and before making your purchase, make sure that it is also safe for your dog to play with. You will not always be around to look after your dog, so aim to get a toy that they can still play with when you are not watching.
