Here are the five major types of skin -

Type 1: These are people with the palest skin. It burns instead of tanning, sometimes even getting freckled. The only spray tan colors which work best for such skin types are the lightest shades. Anything darker than this will just turn you orange.

Type 2: This skin type burns too but it can actually get a sun tan when done gradually. The best color for this skin type would again be the lighter shades of spray tan. However, people in this category with darker skin tones can use medium shades with great success too.

Type 3: This is what is known as olive skin. People with this skin type generally go brown quite easily. This type of skin is ideal for spray tanning as people with this type of skin look good in any shade. There are very small chances of you turning orange if you belong to this category.

Type 4: This skin type in fact looks the best with a tan otherwise it usually turns a bit yellowish or grayish. This type of skin just turns darker with almost no burning. If you are considering a spray tan, go for a shade which evens out the color of your skin. This is particularly good for you if your skin turns a bit gray during the winters.

Type 5: This skin type is the darkest of all and is sometimes further divided into sub categories. This type of skin never burns and just turns darker. Usually people with this skin type go for a sunless spray tan to even out their skin color or for covering up vitiligo.
