Choosing The Right Online Nursing School

Choosing The Right Online Nursing School

By:

In order to determine which online school you would like to earn a BSN or MSN degree there are a few questions that must be answered. Making the correct decision could have both career and financial repercussions for years to come.
Is the Nursing School Regionally Accredited?
Make sure the answer to this question is yes before asking anything else. The highest level of accreditation is regional, and is recognized throughout the United States. What this will mean is that other regionally accredited nursing schools will recognize the degree that you earn, and the coursework you completed. Regional accreditation for a nursing school is accomplished on a volunteer basis. Keep in mind that if you are utilizing an employer tuition reimbursements plan that the school you choose will have to be accredited.
Are the fees or other costs beyond Tuition or Textbooks?
Aside from comparing what tuition costs will be per credit hour, determine if there are additional fees that the nursing school is going charge. Some schools might charge fees for items such as graduation, library privileges, technology, transcript evaluation, or for the application. While each of these fees may be modest in their size make sure that you are not surprised later once you have already started a degree program.

How are Clinical Requirements Satisfied?
Any legitimate online nursing school will require that a student demonstrate what has been learned. This can be one of the largest differences that a prospective student will find from one school to the next. Some of the questions to ask your enrollment officers as you compare schools should include:
1.How many hours of clinical time is mandatory?
2.Can the requirements be met with my current employer?
3.Is there travel required?
4.What additional fees are charged for clinical?

How much of the Nursing Program Online is online?
Misleading positional students with claims of having an online BSN or MSN degree program is prevalent in the world of online education. Make sure that the school you are looking into offers enough online classes to complete the degree. A number of online nursing schools do not have all of the programs coursework available online. In particular ensure that courses such as chemistry are available online as this is a course a number of schools require on campus attendance for.

Make sure to take your time as you research different nursing schools that offer online degree programs. Aside from a home or perhaps a car this will be one of the largest financial obligations that a potential student will make. Knowing that the degree you earn is accredited, that all the costs are understood from the beginning, and how much of the degree program is actually online are the most important questions to get answered.
