Choosing The Right Kind Of Origami Paper

By:

Origami is an art of making folds in a paper. Origami originated from two Japanese words, Ori meaning folding and kami meaning paper. This art aims to transform folded sheet of materials into a sculpture. Paper is the most basic and only requirement in making an origami. That is why you have to consider what kind of papers is best in making it. So before we start, I will discuss the most basic types of papers used in making origami.

1.Foiled-back paper-
Foiled back paper is made up of a thin sheet paper glued in a metallic foil. Having this metallic foil helps in making sharp edges and folds well. It is good for making complex models because it is stiff and compresses well. On the other hand, it is hard to smooth out easily when you folded it by mistake. And it could get dented when you frequently fold and unfold a part, making the mark more permanent and ugly to look at.

2.Solid-colored, thin paper
If you are making a not-so complex but not so simple origami, this solid-colored, thin paper is the best paper to use. The thinness of this paper allows you to make something where you do a lot of folding. And using this kind of paper is better when you make some other complex models.

3.Paper with Texture
This kind of paper is more suitable to use when making just simple models. Paper with texture has more volume, giving it a lot of characters.

4.Scrapbooking Paper
Scrapbooking is becoming more popular these days. There has been a variation when it comes to design, texture, print and thickness, which exploded to different kind of paper

5.Paper Crane
This is the most basic and most well-known paper. It is a square sheet of paper with different colors on the side.
