Choosing The Right Display Fridge

By:

A display fridge can make all the difference between a "thank you" and "no thank you" on the sales floor. Not only the actions and words of the salesperson, but also the equipment being used for display plays in the decision of the consumer to buy your product. Functionality is not the only consideration in displaying the products for sale. However, a display fridge should be able to maintain an even temperature throughout the year, no matter what the season is. Food safety is always a major concern to consumers. Refrigeration is best achieved at 45 degrees or lower, with a shelf life of 24 hours or less for most fresh prepared foods.

The next consideration is the cleanliness of the display fridge. Any spills should be cleaned immediately, and the entire unit should be cleaned daily with approved solvents. For example, chlorine bleach mixed with water at a ratio of one part bleach to four parts water is acceptable in most states of the United States. The mixture kills any bacteria that may gather as a result of spills, while not leaving soapy residue in the display fridge that other solutions do. Particular concern is paid to any glass surfaces on the front of the case, to increase the allure of the products displayed within.

Access to the display fridge should be limited to the person or people authorized to distribute the products on display. Plastic gloves should be mandatory in handling the product, and hair nets or caps should be worn. This eliminates concerns of the spread of bacteria or foreign objects being found on the refrigerated items. Front openings in the display fridge available to consumers should be avoided for the aforementioned reasons. Cleanliness of the display shows the consumer that great care is used in order to protect the product as well as the people that consume them.

Another consideration is the way the product is displayed. Alternating shelving within the display fridge allows for creative arrangement of the product. Bigger items in the center of the display make them more prominent, or smaller items grouped in the center catches the eye of the consumer. Depending on the product being featured, the consumer most often will glance at the center of a display. If interest is peaked, the entire display is inspected resulting in sales for the provider.

To make your display fridge a bit more fun, add seasonal decorations to attract attention and show some great decorative ideas. For example, a tasteful display of fall colors, leaves and gourds highlights seasonal products on display during regional harvest season. Local events are another option for decoration, promoting delicacies or specialty items displayed for sale. Decorating for national holidays also contributes to sales. Colorful displays draw the attention of the consumer, while the friendly banter of a well-trained salesperson closes the sale.

The style of the display fridge placed in the establishment should fit the decor and theme of the business as well. With all of these elements in place, your display will make your sales for you.
