Choosing The Right Course And The Right University

Choosing The Right Course And The Right University

By:

An Irish poet once said that education is not the filing of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire. That is very much applicable for a student who is at cross road of his education choices. They say that should one decide to go to a university, the course of choice should be more about one's passion and goals in life. This then boils down to being able to choose a course that reflects one's passion and dreams in life. When coupled with the university, then one should be inspired to pursue and persevere. However, anyone who was deciding on what course to take would know how confusing it could get especially when there are so many factors to consider. This is one reason why schools have guidance counselors and career counseling services for high school senior students.

When deciding on you course, you might like to take a look at your personal interests. What are you most interested in? What do like and love doing? What do you find easy to understand? What do you find yourself spending a lot of time on? Now, the next question is, why are you interested in what you are interested in? Sometimes, parents are a huge factor in this. Some children are obliged to please their parents, voluntarily or involuntarily. These questions can help lead you to the acknowledgment of what you are truly interested in.

Once you have decided on what would like to pursue, the next question would be where you would like to pursue it. One thing to consider is the country where your course of choice is best offered. If your options were not geographically limited, then it would be a good time to consider looking at the best universities for your course. This not only helps you be in the right place to learn; it is also a good time to learn a new language, immerse in a different culture and meet international friends.

Finally, don't forget to do your research. Talk to people who may have gone through that educational and career path that you have envisioned yourself to be taking. Perhaps they can give you other suggestions. Learn the different pros and cons of the course and university that you have chosen. Perhaps you can even take a tour of the university you are interested in to allow you to have a look and feel of the environment.
